At the beginning of the new year we always tend to make our resolutions. We draft up our plans, write out manifestations and have all of our goals lined up. Sometimes what we don’t realize is during this process we may be putting unnecessary pressure on ourselves. We start to become consumed by knocking out each goal that we do not take a moment to appreciate our accomplishments. Overtime this can lead to burnout and eventually anxiety. Below are 5 things to remember when starting off 2021.
1) Don’t feel less than because you are not where you thought you would be at this point in your life.
Things happen and setbacks happen, life is a marathon not a race. In time everything will fall into place. Your story is in the process of being written. Each chapter won’t be easy or happy, but it is your story to tell.
2) Forgive yourself, and stop beating yourself up over things that happened in the past.
Everyone makes mistakes, and from those mistakes valuable lessons are learned. It is okay to move forward, you deserve to move forward. Your past does not define who you are.
3) You don’t have to have everything figured out.
Take time to sort through everything. Be patient with yourself and trust the process. In time you will know what you want, what you are seeking. It’s okay to start new hobbies, and learn new things. You don’t have to stay in one box, give yourself a chance to explore new things. You may learn some new and interesting things about yourself along the way.
4) Give yourself more credit for all that you’ve done.
Small wins and progress matters. This means that all of your small habits are starting to add up. You are growing, and evolving to become the best version of yourself. It is not easy be proud that you are showing up for yourself everyday.
5) Comparison is the thief of joy.
Just because someone else your age is in a different stage than you does not mean you are behind, or your life is not meaningful. Someone else’s wins does not equate your failure. This does not mean you are inadequate or incompetent. You are working, your season is coming, You will soon step into your greatness, keep up with those good habits. Trust the process.
Each and every day is new. We have to get things done but we also can not neglect ourselves during the process. Take care of your mental and physical always.
